Love and Romance Movies

Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year. What lovely timing! Perfect to cuddle up with a love one and watch a love story. It's chick flick time, folks! Here is my top 10 favorite love stories (not in particular order).

Bridges of Madison County – Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep. I read the book first, then watched the movie. I don’t know where I cried more.

Somewhere in Time – Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen t his movie, yet I still do when I have the chance. Even got to visit Mackinac Island - the place where they shot the movie. Just lovely.

The Notebook – Seen this only once and I vowed never to watch it again – or else I will be dehydrated (due to crying).

An Affair to Remember – Strangely, it gets to my list but I have not seen the whole movie. I know the story though, just by reading. Truth is, I have a DVD of this movie just waiting for the right time. Maybe this Saturday is the right night.

Sleepless in Seattle – what’s a list without a Meg Ryan – Tom Hanks movie? A cute love story and to think Meg and Tom only shared 2 minutes of screen time together here.

Serendipity - John Cusack, Kate Beckinsale. One of hubby’s favorite chick flick. To say he has watched this 4 x is an understatement.

Love Story - Ali McGraw, Ryan O'Neal. Another bucket of tears shed here. This movie was released when I was still too young to understand all the fuss about love. My older sisters were crazy about it. As I got older I was able to find a copy – and I don’t wonder why.

Titanic – I don’t care if it’s 3 hours long. Leonardo diCaprio and Kate Winslet make it all worthwhile.

Ghost – the date movie of 1990. Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. Wasn’t everyone singing Unchained Melody then?

Message In A Bottle – Robin Wright Penn, Kevin Costner. Another Nicholas Sparks book turned into a movie.

You still have time, rent any of those movies! Be cheesy, be corny, be mushy !

  1. I am not a big movie watcher but more than 50% of what you just mentioned, I have watched. There's nothing more heart warming than a great love story. The NOTEBOOK is my fave, and yes, I wasted a lot of tears on that movie.

  2. First it was the Titanic, then the Notebook. I've seen The Notebook several times and the tears just keeps rolling. A wonderful love story.

  3. I believe that Autumn in New York should be included in the list of best love story movies. I enjoyed watching the chemistry of Richard Gere and Wynona Ryder. Made my cry as well... I would vote for Sleepless in Seattle as the back-to-back pair for AINY.

I can't resist watching love story movies even if I'm alone... sssshhhh! That's my secret.
