Big Road Trip - Sussex, New Brunswick Covered Bridges

The Big Road Trip
Canada Maritimes

June 8-20, 2018

New Brunswick being the Canadian province with the most number of covered bridges we did not leave Sussex without passing by 2 other bridges.

Smith's Creek Covered Bridge - built in 1927. This one still allows vehicles to pass through.

Salmon River Covered Bridge - built in 1908. This bridge allows only pedestrians to pass through.

Then we met young, new friends while admiring the structure.

I love checking out covered bridges. They are historical, romantic and served a purpose during their time. These bridges are getting extinct too - thus I enjoy them now before they are gone.

Big Road Trip 2018 - New Brunswick

The Big Road Trip
Canada Maritimes

June 8-20, 2018

If there is one thing I can say about our big Road Trip to the Canadian Maritimes this year it is -"Spontaneity is what travel is all about". ~ Zach Anner

And so we packed our bags and set to finally take the road trip that has been on our travel wish list for more than 5 years. One day to decide, 6 days to plan and then 13 days of magic!!

Left Toronto on Friday, June 8 heading towards Quebec. Nothing much happened on our way to Riviere-du-Loop  except the heavy, heavy traffic in Montreal. That probably added more than 2 hours to our drive.

The drive from Quebec to New Brunswick was blessed with beautiful weather and gorgeous clouds.

After 2.5 hours of driving, first stop : Florenceville Covered Bridge, Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick. This is a half and half! Half of the bridge is covered, the other half is open.

20 minutes away from the Florenceville Covered Bridge is the world's longest covered bridge - the Hartland Covered Bridge. Nobody visits New Brunswick without passing by this iconic bridge that spans 1,282 feet. Constructed in 1898 and opened on 1901.

This is the other bridge that connects Hartland to Somerville, New Brunswick (as part of Hiway 130). This may not be as popular as the covered bridge but it sure looks beautiful against the blue sky and green all around.

Managed to have some poutine at the nearby stand - CK's (You Got to Eat Here!)

Toronto Streets : Please Be Seated

Empty chairs, seats, benches always get me. Whether it is on my timed lunch walk or a leisurely stroll. Here are 4 I snapped lately.

Merrickville - Postcard photos

Merrickville, Ontario
October 8-10, 2017

Every place no matter how small has its own charm. Merrickville is no exception. For a village with a population of barely 3000 in 2016, I still was able to capture a few "personal favorite" photos.

Road photos leading to somewhere...

Old road, old bridge.

Wooden bridge.

Andrewsville bridge. Andrewsville Road over Rideau River.
One of the few remaining heritage truss bridges in Ontario that was saved from demolition.
Built in 1904

And then 2 bench photos.

Merrickville, Ontario : Main Street, Chairs

Merrickville, Ontario
October 8-10, 2017

Can we just sit and talk a while?

A welcoming iron bench under tree.

This bench is all about fun!!

The waiting chair.

Of all the chairs I captured in Merrickville, this one is my favorite.
A very unassuming rocking chair.

Welland - A Different Art

Walking the streets of Welland we chanced upon this strange place by the riverside. I have to say I was not excited to venture more into it but at the same time I was intrigued.

It's a strange world, let's keep it that way.
