Valentine’s day was spent with several couples in a friend’s home. Intimate and cozy dinner? No. How could we have one together with our "dateless" grown-up kids? Not that I am complaining, this set-up works for us. We are happy the way things are -- being with family and friends even on days like Valentine’s day. Very soon, all of them will be going on dates.That will be a lonely Feb. 14 for moms and dads.

Then yesterday, we spent a few hours with another couple whom we have not seen for several months. Pressures of life and conflicting schedules drifted us apart for a while. But all is well over ensaymada and coke. We exchanged our late Christmas presents, updated on each others' lives, and just plainly enjoyed their company.
When you are with good friends, time really goes so fast.
