The following scenarios actually happened and not products of my imaginative mind. Names are withheld to protect the innocent.
Scene 1
Colleague 1 : Ms.Randomness, why doesn't my staple work?
Me : (After checking electric stapler) Have you ever heard of staple wires?
Scene 2
Another co-worker: Ms. Randomness, can you check my phone? It doesn't work.
Me : (After checking phone of course) Cords are meant to be plugged to outlets, you know.
Scene 3
Still another colleague: Ms. Randomness, our printer does not work.
Me : (after checking printer, as always) Did you try pushing the "on" button?
It is either these people love me so much they want to spite me, or they just want to check how low can my IQ go? Now you ask me why I blog?

Actually, this post has been in my drafts for a long time now. As I read Jonathan Morrow's article on How To Be Interesting, technique No. 13 says, to quote :
13) Be startlingly honest: Every once in awhile, tell the truth. Be so honest that you’re scared to click the “Post” button. Be so honest that no one knows what to say in the comments section. Be so honest that your lawyer tells you to stop. You’ll feel better… and people will talk about you.
I dared to be honest in this post. Made me feel good.

So are you the mechanical "go-to" person in the office? Are these co-workers blond? Or maybe they just want to be close to you.
ReplyDeleteHi Ms. Randomness:
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your articles. Keep them coming. Reminded me of my own experiences at work. You have to learn live with this breed of officemates and find for the real meaning of PATIENCE.

Who is that girl? I like her.
ReplyDeleteMaybe your'e too nice to your officemates and dependable. I don't think they try to spite you, they just find you clever and all-knowing.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, familiarity breeds contempt. The more close you are to your officemates, chances are respect is diminished. but knowing you it's too distant to happen.
