This is how we vote here in Canada. For one, there is advanced voting for those so inclined. On election day, our voting station is our own building. No line up of people, no sample ballots, no watchers for every political party.
Inside our voting station are 2 election officials who check our ID and verify our name from the master list. Then we are provided a ballot and we go sit on the voting booth. 2 booths for our voting station.
After less than a minute of making our choices, we return our ballots and they feed the ballots to the computer. All done.
The polls ended at 8:00 PM, and at 8:09 PM (of the same day) - a new mayor for Toronto was declared. No sweat.
