Choosing Godparents

Hubby and I were browsing over old photos, and below was our conversation:

Hubby : My, this boy is so big now, I am his godfather because I volunteered.

Me : Really, why did you?

Hubby: Because his father is my friend.

Me : Are you not supposed to wait to be asked?

Hubby : No, I did not wait - I told him I should be a godfather to his son.

Me : What if you were not in his list?

Hubby : Then I will lose respect for him and he will cease to be my friend.

End of conversation.

Hubby has very strong ideas on how to choose a godfather. Until now, he has not totally forgiven a friend who chose big and important people over him as godfather for his son. Being chosen or not being chosen is a serious matter for him.

For your children's godparents - what was your criteria? Fame, fortune, or friendship?

  1. He's not ninong to any of my children, but you are... I hope the friend that you're talking about is not me... anyway, even if dili siya ninong, I would still consider him to be the person I would leave my kids to if I go away... labad gyud iyang ulo!

    D!

  2. If I had children I would have chosen friendship. They will last a lifetime.
