On Commercials

How much do you like commercials?

D and I watch a fair share of TV shows. We both agree however that commercials are a waste of time and disturb momentum. For an hour long show, we are bombarded with more than 20 minutes of advertisement. We have been contemplating on getting a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) equivalent to the TiVo.

This wish for a PVR also came from a recent read that commercials are set with higher volume than the show itself. We have proved this to be true. Observe that when you are watching TV. And not only that, we also read that some frames are cut in the show so more advertisements can be accommodated. How cunning can these advertisers be? Maybe it is really time for that PVR.

On the other hand, there is this show Ad Persuasion we recently discovered that is all about advertisements. It shows ads that are well done and popular. A panel of art "experts" then discuss the ad's merits or demerits. It is entertaining and we find ourselves hooked.

Here is one just for laughs.

  2. A worse case of this and hard to imagine is when some news channel take a break for advertisement. Yeah, I really hate it too when my focus on the show is disrupted to an unreasonably number of times by the same advertisement. Can only wish they end in lightning speed.
