UP, Tepuis and Pixar

I am sort of glad I did not watch UP at the moviehouse. I mean that in a positive kind of way. Actually, it would have been nice to watch it on the big screen - but then that would have meant I missed the Blu-Ray version.

First, UP is the heart warming story of elderly widower Carl Fredricksen and a young, overeager, Wilderness Explorer named Russell, who flew to South America in a floating house suspended from helium balloons. Produced by Pixar and presented in Digital 3D -watching it on the big screen would have been totally awesome.

But the Blu-Ray offered a better treat, it featured Behind-The-Scenes which made the rental truly worth every buck. In the preparations before making the movie, Pixar sent director Pete Docter and 11 other Pixar artists to Monte Roraima, Venezuela. There they spent three nights painting and sketching nature's beauty such as tepuis seen only by the very few who dared. In Docter's own words "we couldn't use the rocks and plants we saw, reality is so far out, if we put it in the movie you wouldn't believe it."

So glad there is Pixar who leaves no stone unturned for the sake of movie making and equally glad there are Blu-Ray versions of beautiful movies like UP.
