The Informant!

I went to see The Informant! thinking this was going to be a heart pounding movie. Matt Damon is Jason Bourne, remember? My mistake. My heart did not pound a bit, there was no car chase, no action, not even guns!

The Informant! is a political, dark comedy film about Mark Whitacre a rising executive of ADM who blew the whistle on the company's price-fixing tactics. I have always enjoyed dark comedies - in the likes of Kiss, Kiss Bang, Bang and Burn After Reading. But only because they were fiction. The Informant however was different. This was based on a true story.

I was not quite impressed with how scriptwriter Scott Z. Burns converted the serious, high profile FBI embezzlement case into a comedy. It lacked the perk, the jolt, the push. It was too trying hard to be funny, and sometimes you don't even know it was supposed to be funny already. It was tolerable though -- a movie to watch when there is not much of a choice.

Read the synopsis of The Informant here, and about Mark Whitacre here.

Sometimes, truth is really stranger than fiction.
