Penetanguishene, Ontario

Looking for something different to do on a weekend? Try the 30,000 Islands Cruise in Penetanguishene, Ontario. A mere 2 hours drive from Toronto, Penetanguishene is a quiet place at the southeasterly tip of the Georgian Bay.

The evening trip has dinner and a jazz band while you enjoy the 3.5 hour cruise along the bay. Food was good, staff were friendly and courteous, and the band played Louis Armstrong favorites.

St. Ann's church, Penetang's oldest church -
viewed from the harbor.

Huron legend tells of a giant called Kitchikewana, who was was known for his great temper and one day, in a fit of rage, dug a giant hand into the ground and flung the dirt he pulled up into the Great Lakes. Thus, the 30,000 Islands were created.

The indentations left behind by his fingers form the five bays of Georgian Bay, he then lay down to sleep and sleeps there still as Giant's Tomb Island.

By the way, there are actually more than 30,000 islands. Some are uninhabited, while others have beautiful cottages you can have in your dreams.
