Summer Reads

“The habit of reading is the only enjoyment in which there is no alloy;
it lasts when all other pleasures fade.”

- Anthony Trollope

Looking for some reads? Here's a few popular authors :

John Grisham - a master when it comes to legal thrillers. If you have not read any Grisham novel, try his first ones like "A Time to Kill", "The Firm", "The Client". Grisham is not for you if you want fast paced action. He may become a bit formulaic after reading more than 10 of his novels -- but watch out, his last 2 novels showed a different Grisham.

James D. Patterson is a popular author for mystery thrillers. Having read a few of his books "Mary, Mary", "Honeymoon", "Lifeguard" I still am not converted into a true fan. In October 2007, Patterson holds the New York Times bestsellers list record with 39 New York Times bestselling titles overall. A bit commercial, sometimes predictable --but still interesting.

Richard North Patterson is your choice if you are into socially relevant novels like corporate greed, oil, religious conflicts. His novel "Eclipse" jolted me from my comfort zone and made me sit back. This Patterson writes serious fiction with characters based on real people. I have to give space between two Richard North Patterson novels. Heavy stuff but worth the sleepless night.

For thought provoking, inspirational fiction, Mitch Albom is one good writer. Author of the popular "The Five People You Met in Heaven", "Tuesdays with Morrie" and "For One More Day", just be prepared to shed a tear or two with Albom's books.

Truly, reading is a vice hard to give up.
