The BlackBerry is a line of wireless handheld devices that was introduced in 1999 as a two-way pager developed by the Canadian company Research In Motion (RIM). This popular device supports e-mail, mobile telephone, text messaging, internet faxing, web browsing and other wireless information services as well as a multi-touch interface.
Although not yet quite popular with the young crowd -- it is an indispensable tool among the executives - President Obama included. In December 2008, RIM announced the number of BlackBerry subscribers has reached approximately 21 million.
