Happy Canada Day!

Canada is 142 years old tomorrow! As my tribute to this beautiful country, some Canadian trivia :
  • Canada is the world's second largest country by total area (9,984,670 Km2), next only to Russia, or the size of the Philippines 33x!
  • To travel from Newfoundland to the Yukon Territory would mean crossing six time zones. Average time difference is 1 hour between zones, which means if it is still 12:30 pm in British Columbia, it is already 4:30 pm in the Atlantic or 5:00 pm in Newfoundland.
  • The name "Canada" comes from the Huron and Iroquois word "Kanata" meaning "village".
  • Canada is proud and protective of its parks and wildlife. There are over 40 national parks across the regions. These National Parks protect the habitats, wildlife and ecosystem diversity of the natural regions. The biggest park is almost 45,000 km2 (Wood Buffalo National Park of Canada - photo below).

  • Canada is one of the largest mining nations in the world; the third largest diamond producing nation in the world; and world's leader in the production of potash and uranium.
  • The Trans-Canada Highway stretching for 7699 km (4784 miles), is the world's longest National highway. The highway’s start/finish points are St. John’s, Newfoundland (North America's oldest city) and Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

This one is no trivia : Canada is home to more than 400,000 Filipino Canadians. It is said, 1 of every 2 Filipinos are in the Greater Toronto Area. Metro Vancouver is the next choice for Filipinos, followed by Winnipeg, Metro Calgary and Montreal.

Happy Birthday Adopted Country!
