Packaging Engineering

When my godchild G told me she was taking up Packaging Engineering , my first reaction was "what is there in packaging to engineer about"?

But then, last Christmas we received a very nice gift packaged in such a way that intrigued me. Follow pictures and numbers.

1) How the gift came. Note the gray portion on the upper part.

2) View from top - pretty nice.

3) To open: Just untie the ribbon and slide the gray top up.

4) View from top, when open.

5) Take out gifts (wine), then the gift box can be flattened. Nifty!

Packaging Engineering, eh?

  1. that is the first time I've heard of packaging engineering, but if the craftsmanship is anywhere close to that gift packaging, they can make a lucrative business out of it, i think.

  2. Packaging Engineers are supposed to design all sorts of packaging... from fancy gift packaging to not-so-glamorous and odd-shaped whachamacallits...
Anyway, G, is now in her junior year. She decided she is more inclined to dealing with people rather than with packages. She is studying Kinesiology or Human Kinetics... maybe you haven't heard about it either.... well, I didn't, until now.

  3. For her graduate studies, why not consider Physical or Occupational Therapy. Unless she wants to proceed to Medicine. PT or OT is a very interesting career. You can specialize or work in different settings. Acute care, wound care, outpatient, home health, ortho, neuro, sports, school system etc. Also a great opportunity to travel. A lot of therapists do travel. You can have more or less a 13 week assignment in different states, your choice. The pay is not bad either.

  4. What goes in has to go out. I think I love the contents more! Cool and refreshing, I suppose...

  5. Au,
Thanks for the good suggestions. I hope Miss K is taking notes for her daughter.
    Kreez,
    Anything can be engineered now.

    BTW,
I took a 2 day course on Human Kinesiology a while back. I liked the idea of studying the muscles and how to exercise them. I just did not take the exam. That will be another blog post.
