Our TIFF movies

Adela was chosen being a Filipino film. It did not disappoint D, E, and me. Superb acting of Anita Linda, excellent directing (from D's point of view). Sana lang maintindihan ng mga kababayan natin.
World's Biggest Chinese Restaurant - we choose this because of the catchy title. There is a lot to learn from this documentary, ie, Chinese food in Toronto does not look like the Chinese food in China ( I prefer the Toronto kind). If you saw the movie, you will know what I mean. It presented parts of the Chinese culture using the restaurant as a background. Yeah, it is the World's biggest Chinese restaurant per the Guinness Book of World Records.
Serbis - another Filipino film. I could not recommend it to everyone. If you do dare to watch it, be armed with an open mind. Very often, you deny the realities of life when it is very close to the heart. I have seen or know prostitution exists in my country , it is present in any culture -- but then, I look the other way, I do not want it to be the subject of a movie to be shown in other countries. Ewan ko. Ganito lang talaga ako.
$5 a day. Who would not want to know how Christopher Walken lived on $5 a day? But the bigger question after watching is, "was Finney, Nat's son? D and I cannot seem to agree.
Real Time. We need to have a Canadian movie in our list. Simple story, a bit predictable. This is one story where either way the writer chose to end the movie, he will not please everyone. I guess he chose the "politically" correct way. Very nice sound track. Canadians make beautiful music too!
Picasso and Braque went to the Movies. How did art lead to Film? This documentary was made more interesting with Martin Scorcese. My "I'm Not There" (meaning, I slept on some parts of the movie) for this year. With not a lot of "awake" moments, I still managed to learn a thing or two about Arts and Films.
Medicine for Melancholy. A taste of Afro-American. Beautifully shot, gorgeous actors, entertaining soundtrack. I came to realize we all have issues, and film is one good way to express these issues.
Brothers Bloom . Our reason : Directed by Rian Johnson. What is there to comment on the acting of Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo and the rest of the gang? All you have to do is watch and be conned.
Toronto Stories - another Canadian film. Focusing on Toronto made it more appealing. Four stories in one movie, I got excited just looking at all those familiar Toronto places and icons.
A nice end to this year's TIFF adventure was the autograph of the 3 directors on our ticket.
Someday, D's autograph will be in one of those tickets...
