Here are some Toronto spring events (or places to visit) for nature lovers, camera buffs, and wanna-be models. This incomplete list is also good for just plain family fun.
Cherry Blossoms at High Park – no exact date yet as full bloom is dependent on weather. Last year the peak bloom was in April 16-18. Park has no entrance fee. NOTE: When the flowers are at full bloom, parking is difficult – so be there early. For updates click here.
Oshawa Second Marsh – on the last 2 weeks of April, it is said that 50-100 Little Gulls (birds) stage and perform courtship displays. This is supposedly unique to Toronto only. ( I have not seen this – but may try going one weekend). Click her for Oshawa Second Marsh site.
Lynde Shores Conservation Area – parking fee is $1/hr for a maximum of $5/day. Lynde Shores is one of the best places to see migratory birds. Friendly chickadees even feed from your hand (if you have bird seeds!). Beautiful scenery at the boardwalk when you go early morning. For more of Lynde Shores click here.
Wildflowers at Peak at Bronte Creek Provincial Park – runs until May 23. Another event I have not been to but may try this year. References here and here.
Edward Garden (Toronto Botanical Garden) – no entrance fee. Nice place for a leisurely walk in any season. Birds, wildflowers, fresh air abound. Gardens site.
For more bird watching, you can never go wrong with Tommy Thompson Park at the Leslie Spit and the Toronto Centre Island . Great places for walking too.
